![]() Teacher Education as a Moral Community ![]() AACTE Task Force on Teacher Education as a Moral Community (TEAMC) In 1996-1997, AACTE President Barbara Burch and Hendrik Gideonse spearheaded an effort to explore and define the moral and ethical dimensions of teaching and teacher education. A task force was formed to frame the issues and propose directions for Association work in this area. Through meetings, electronic discussions, and open forums at AACTE Annual Meetings, the group has identified a wide range of issues to be addressed, proposed methods for conducting the work, involved the membership and other organizations and individuals in the conversation, and considered resources for both project funding and organizational alliances and networks. TEAMC discusses several major agenda strands related to moral and ethical issues in teacher education:

Current Projects AACTE?s Task Force, Teacher Education as a Moral Community (TEAMC), has been charged to begin the engaging and challenging work of consensus around dispositions in teacher education. TEAMC is in the initial stages of developing a process and plan for how to proceed with the work. One of the first steps, currently in progress, is developing an extensive annotated bibliography from the literature on dispositions. TEAMC is considering dispositions in three areas: Defining dispositions, assessing dispositions, and legal defensibility of dispositions. These categories were identified to frame the literature, although the categories may change during the review of the literature. Click here find a sample of references from the literature in the areas of defining dispositions and assessing dispositions. Click here to view a list of legal cases that may give insight into the dispositions dialogue. Click here to view a comparison of definitions of the term disposition as defined by TEAMC, NCATE, as well as various other sources from the field.
You are invited to submit references that will contribute to TEAMC?s annotated bibliography, which we hope will evolve into a useful starting point for beginning a consensus dialogue on dispositions in teacher education. Please submit references to be considered for the bibliography to AACTE?s Professional Issues and Partnerships Department at PIP-Section@aacte.org. Publications Sockett, Hugh (Ed.). (2006).
