RESEARCH ABOUT TEACHER EDUCATION

In February 2008 AACTE’s Board of Directors approved a Research Agenda for teacher education.  The research agenda outline was recommended by the AACTE Committee on Research and Dissemination.  AACTE leaders continue to explore potential future directions for research in the field of teacher education which the Association can help to promote, facilitate, guide, sponsor and / or conduct.

AACTE has also authored Research Standards and Guidelines, a set of standards for the conduct of rigorous educational research that build on previously developed guidelines in the educational research community.  This document provides guidance for AACTE interactions concerning educational research with other education stakeholders, including federal agencies, educational associations, schools of education, and the press. The guidelines also govern AACTE relationships with individuals requesting access to data from AACTE for research purposes. The standards are also intended to inform the conduct of education research at AACTE member institutions.

Other AACTE activities related to research on teacher education include the national database on faculty, candidate and program indicators for teacher education and the Journal of Teacher Education published by AACTE in cooperation with Sage Publications.

AACTE also supports research in teacher education through annual Writing and Research awards.
